Understanding God's Plan for Your Life: The Battle Between Destruction and Abundant Living

April 30, 20267 min read

In a world where many feel defeated, discouraged, and overwhelmed by life's challenges, it's crucial to understand that there's a spiritual battle taking place for your destiny. The enemy has a clear agenda, but God has an even greater plan for your life.

What Does the Enemy Want to Do in Your Life?

The Three-Fold Attack: Steal, Kill, and Destroy

"'The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.'" - John 10:10 New King James Version (NKJV)

The enemy's strategy is methodical and destructive. He comes to steal what God has given you, kill your hope and fighting spirit, and ultimately destroy everything God has planned for your life. This isn't just about physical theft or murder - it's about a systematic attack on your faith, relationships, purpose, and destiny.

The devil wants you to live defeated, struggling, sick, depressed, and miserable. He wants you to feel like you've never hit the target of what life was supposed to be about. It's a mindset that keeps you trapped in defeat rather than walking in victory.

Understanding Satan's Strategies

Paul wrote that we should not be ignorant of Satan's devices. The enemy has specific strategies to hinder your progression and growth, keeping you in spiritual immaturity where you can't recognize or discern his workings. When you live intentionally in pursuit of the Lord, you don't have to worry about everything the enemy is doing - you just stay focused on pursuing God, and His hand works on your behalf.

What Has Jesus Already Accomplished?

The Power of Redemption

"'In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace'" - Ephesians 1:7 New King James Version (NKJV)

Redemption is one of the most powerful words in the Bible. Through Jesus, we have complete forgiveness and restoration. The Son of God was revealed to destroy the works of the devil. When you understand this truth, your prayer life changes - you begin to pray, "Lord, destroy the destroyer in my life."

Jesus Has Already Won the Victory

"'How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.'" - Acts 10:38 New King James Version (NKJV)

The anointing destroys the works of the devil. Jesus was anointed to defeat the enemy, which means you don't have to fight what Jesus has already won. You must change your posture from victim to victor. Jesus has no enemies - the last enemy that will be defeated is death, and He's already conquered death, hell, and the grave.

How Do We Access This Victory?

The Power of Praise in Difficult Circumstances

Praise activates an anointing for breakthrough. Consider Paul and Silas in Acts 16 - they were imprisoned for doing God's work, but instead of complaining, they praised God and prayed. They understood that praise gets access with God.

At midnight, in their darkest hour, they didn't get mad at God even though they were following His will. Many people get excited about God's promises but get angry when they don't understand the process. Your Father is working everything out according to His will, not your emotions.

Living from Your Spirit, Not Your Soul

You are a spirit being who lives in a body and has a soul. The problem comes when you try to run your life through your wounded soul instead of your spirit. Your soul has been wounded through life experiences and must be restored - this is a lifetime process, not a one-time event.

"'As many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.'" - Romans 8:14 New King James Version (NKJV)

Your spirit must be submitted to God's Spirit. Even when you don't feel like praying, pray anyway - that's just a soulish feeling. Your spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

What Kind of Life Has Jesus Promised?

Three Types of Life in Scripture

There are three Greek words for life in the New Testament:

  • Bios: Physical, biological life

  • Psuche: Natural life that everyone receives at birth

  • Zoe: Eternal life that comes when you're born again

The problem is that many people are born again but aren't living the eternal life Jesus promised. Everything in their environment disrupts their praise, prayers, and relationships because they're still operating from their wounded soul rather than their redeemed spirit.

Abundant Life Defined

Jesus came so that you might have, keep, and constantly retain a vitality, gusto, vigor, and zest for living that springs up from deep down inside. This isn't dependent on your circumstances; it's a life that supersedes your environment.

You have life on the inside of you that's greater than anything happening outside of you. This life speaks to you, telling you not to quit, not to fear, and not to give up, because God has work to do through you.

Why Do Some People Struggle to Keep Their Breakthrough?

The Problem of Not Maintaining Victory

Many believers get breakthrough from God but don't maintain it. They receive peace but then lose it, which means the thief is still accessing their lives. Jesus came so that you might have, keep, and constantly retain this abundant life.

The power that works inside you must be greater than the pressure outside you. Pressure will either produce pain or praise; you get to choose. When you learn to tap into the greatness inside you during times of external pressure, you become what God intended: a holy disruptor who changes atmospheres wherever you go.

Dealing with Offenses and Relationships

One of the enemy's greatest strategies is using relationships to destroy your connection with God and others. He'll use familiar relationships, work situations, and offenses to blind you and cut you away from your purpose.

Every relationship is destroyed by the mouth through what you say or don't say, what you do or don't do. Offenses will come, but mature believers learn to cover them in love rather than let them destroy relationships.

Examples of God's Second Chances

Biblical Examples of Redemption

God is a God of second chances, as demonstrated throughout Scripture:

  • Paul: Persecuted the church but became a chosen vessel

  • Moses: Murdered a man in anger but was used to deliver Israel

  • David: Committed adultery and murder but was called a man after God's heart

  • Rahab: Was a prostitute but was placed in the lineage of Jesus

These examples show that God can take what we mess up through anger, poor decisions, and sin and still use us mightily for His purposes.

Life Application

This week, challenge yourself to live from your spirit rather than your wounded soul. When circumstances try to dictate your emotions and responses, remember that you have the life of God inside you that supersedes any external situation.

Practice praising God, especially during difficult moments, knowing that praise activates the anointing for breakthrough. Stop allowing offenses to destroy your relationships, and instead choose to cover offenses in love.

Most importantly, embrace the abundant life Jesus has promised a life filled with vitality, gusto, vigor, and zest that springs up from deep within, regardless of what's happening around you.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Am I living from my spirit or allowing my wounded soul to dictate my responses?

  • What relationships in my life need the healing power of forgiveness and love?

  • How can I better maintain the breakthroughs God gives me instead of losing them to the enemy's attacks?

  • What areas of my life need me to stand up and prophesy God's truth instead of accepting defeat?

Remember, you are not designed to just survive; you're designed to thrive with the abundant life Jesus promised. Stop trying to fit into a world system you weren't designed for, and embrace your identity as someone set apart by God for His purposes.
